UCLA COSMOS Cluster 10

Cluster 10 introduces Internet of Things systems and data science through morning lectures and afternoon labs. Students move from sensor data collection and networked devices to statistical modeling, machine learning, wireless sensing, and a final group project.
Theme: IoT + Data Science
Dates: July 6-August 1, 2026
Lecture: 9:00-11:30 AM
Lab: 1:00-5:00 PM
Location: BH7702A

Course Goals
By the end of the cluster, students should be able to collect sensor data, reason about bias and data quality, build exploratory visualizations, train and evaluate supervised learning models, and explain how modern IoT sensing systems use wireless signals, embedded hardware, and data pipelines.
Final Project
Students will work in groups of 4. Project work begins during Week 3 and continues through Week 4. Final demos and presentations are on August 1 in the Grand Horizons Ballroom.
